Blueberry Harvest Update – July 16, 2016

Wild Maine lowbush blueberries ripen at different times.  But unlike strawberry farms, we do not begin the harvest or open the U-Pick field until 95% or more of the wild blueberries are ripe.

This photo was taken today while I spent some time scouting the blueberry fields.   We estimate that it will be close to August 1, 2016 when our blueberry harvest begins.

I observed plants in the U-Pick fields that were so full of wild blueberries, the plants were leaning under the weight.  If you have ever picked lowbush wild blueberries, you know that’s a handpicker’s dream!
