Breaking Tradition: U-Pick Stays Open for YOU!

Rosalie and Jim Sr. have broken tradition and are leaving their U-Pick field open beyond the harvest for all their customers to enjoy!

The field is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, Monday through Saturday (closed on Sundays).

Typically the field is harvested on the last day of the fresh packing season.  But this year, they have chosen to keep it open, and the handpicking and raking are FABULOUS!  These photos were taken on August 14 in the U-Pick field.  There are large sections that have not yet been touched, sections that would normally be mechanically harvested, but are now available to the public.

(Insider tip:  Look for the best patches of blueberries to the far left near the Greenfield Rd.)

Hand raking is a popular way of harvesting your own blueberries. Bring one of your own or use one of our rakes to gently pull the wild blueberries from the lowbush plants. You can assist Jim Sr. in running your blueberries through his old-fashioned winnowing machine to remove the majority (but not all) of the leaves, small branches, and chaff.

You are welcome to bring your own containers, and quart-size boxes are available for 25 cents each.

Hours: Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays) 8 a.m. to sunset

Cost: The U-Pick wild blueberries are $2.50 a quart. Berry boxes are available for 25 cents each.

Watch for the “Handpicking” signs when you arrive.

We also have a wonderful supply of frozen blueberries in 10 lb boxes from this season.  Reserve your boxes HERE.

There’s NOTHING Like a WILD Maine Blueberry!
